Selleck earned a basketball scholarship to the University of Southern California but in order to pay the bills, he had a side gig as a model. Now, he was actually pursing a degree in Business Administration when his drama coach urged him to give acting a try. Man, was that good advice! And Selleck heeded it as he began to study with the brilliant Milton Katselas at the Beverly Hills Playhouse.

Now that is quite surprising! From 1967 to 1973, he worked in the US army, isn’t he a real dark horse? In his service, he was in the 160th infantry regiment of the California army national guard. Selleck has previously said, “I am a veteran, I’m proud of it. I was a sergeant in the U.S. Army infantry, National Guard, Vietnam era. We’re all brothers and sisters in that sense.”
