How To De-Stress In College

It’s no secret that college is crazy stressful a lot of the time. Aside from all the schoolwork to get through and classes to attend, you need to find time to see your friends and family and take care of yourself. Finding the right balance is a challenge in itself, let alone keeping to it without becoming overwhelmed. It makes sense that as a student, you’re dealing with a hefty amount of stress on a day-to-day basis. We all know that stress is an inseparable part of life, but most of us don’t know how to handle it properly and get through it without feeling completely drained. Well, it turns out that keeping your stress levels as low as possible is important for your health: both mental and physical. So, the question remains: how? It’s easier than you think, and we’ve compiled a few simple ways to help you with it.

Plan Ahead

Get yourself a calendar, dry erase board or a weekly planner. It may be easier to put all your deadlines and assignments into your phone, but the best way to really remember something is having this visual reminder in front of you constantly. Also, you might think you have more time than you actually do in reality. Writing everything down and planning everything well will help you see just how much time you have for each task or activity, making you much more efficient.

Me Time

Try to take some time for yourself every day. If that’s not possible, try for every week instead. Everyone needs some alone time to relax and regroup no matter what. Whether you decide to binge your favorite show on Netflix, read a book, do some yoga or to hit the gym, unplugging from your phone and social media will do wonders for your stress levels.

Sleep

Yes, this is easier said than done. But, hear us out. Several studies have shown that you will get a higher grade on a test when you get more sleep. You might be thinking that it’s a bit of an oxymoron to get a higher grade when you lose study time for sleeping. However, the brain is pretty wonderful in this way; if you go to sleep thinking about a problem, your brain will continue working on solving it while you sleep. Not to mention, this will give your brain time to repair itself. So, try your best to get those hours in.

Study With Friends

At times, studying with a friend is better than studying alone. Meet up with a friend when you can and get to studying together. If you prefer studying alone, no problem. Just hang out with a friend here and there to keep yourself from getting overwhelmed with schoolwork.

Dance Party

Put on your favorite dance song and just dance it out. Dancing will melt the stress away and leave you feeling a whole lot more confident.

It’s All Temporary

Just remember, this is all temporary and it won’t last forever. Even if it feels like it will. All that stress and bad feelings you have will disappear once you hand in that assignment or finish your final. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, so try to focus on that and do your best not to focus on the stress you have going on at the moment.
